How to change your silicone pads

28spin recently brought in some IrPad into Malaysia and i would love to try it out. At the same time, i need to replaceĀ  them on my Yoyofactory Supernova as well. I have taken some photos of the process of changing the silicone pads so that i could post up a tutorial about it. Most of you already know how to change it but i purposely make this post to share with those who is still new in yoyo maintenance.

The purpose of changing/replacing silicone pads are: a) when you find it hard to bind your yoyo back, then it is the time for you to replace with a new pair of pad. b) you might want to try something new and different type of pads.

Enough said. Let’s get it start

1. Unscrew your yoyo first. It not necessary to remove the bearing or the axle. To remove the old pad, you can use your finger nail (easiest way) or sharp-pointed tool like a toothpick. I don’t recommend you to use metal pin or something that is hard because it will leave scratch marks on your yoyo

2. Sometimes, you might see this sticky stuff does not come out together with the silicone pad. This sticky stuff is the adhesive tape that stick your silicone pad to the groove on the yoyo.

3. It is a MANDATORY to remove this sticky stuff before you replace a new pad. I used the toothpick to scrap it out. Next is to get a clean and wet cloth to wipe the groove. Make sure there is no debris left and CLEAN. Else, your new replaced pad will be uneven and it will come off by itself after several throws.

4. Tadaa. Make sure the adhesive side of the pad is the one that stick into the groove and use your finger to press it down firmly to ensure it is fully sit on the groove. Happy throwing with your new pads!
